Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. We offer a significant stock range of Travertine in slab and cut format. Travertine often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, and cream-colored varieties.
Our modern manufacturing facility allows us to process Travertine in significant volumes and also in small batches. Travertine is formed by a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate, often at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone cave. In the latter, it can form stalactites, stalagmites, and other speleothems. Travertine is frequently used in Italy and the UK as a building material. Travertine is a terrestrial sedimentary rock, formed by the precipitation of carbonate minerals from solution in ground and surface waters, and/or geothermally heated hot-springs.
Travertine is a porous stone which may require sealing if installed within areas where moisture and damp can occur. Similar (but softer and extremely porous) deposits formed from ambient-temperature water are known as tufa. For more information on our range of Travertine and our cutting services please contact us on 01909 730807 or upload your project plans on our enquiry form.
